My Why

Have you heard?

Have you heard about the maternal health crisis? It's happening as you read this. Maternal and infant morbidity and mortality rates in this country have only increasingly gotten worse over the last 20-30 years - this has even worsened since the Covid-19 pandemic. It is estimated that due to the Covid-19 pandemic alone, that we have stepped back nearly 20 years in maternal health indicators!

So what does this mean for you, your friends, or your loved ones? This means that everyone should be part of this conversation and we need all hands on deck to make birth safe again. For our Black/African American & other minority mothers, this is even worse. Our African American/Black identifying mothers on average are 2-3x more likely to die in childbirth than any other race, but really this number has been recorded up to 5-6x higher, with some of the highest numbers I have researched being up to 12x than that of white/Caucasian women in certain parts of the country.

Women deserve to be able to bring life on this Earth as nature intended, and how it has been done forever - with support, traditions, and whatever she needs to become the best mother and best version of themselves.

MY APPROACH

Health, Movement, Wellbeing, Support, and so much more!

It is important to ensure moms and birthing people feel supported in their journey through parenthood. Not only is this a special time during their lives and their family's lives, but it can be scary. It can be scary not knowing where, how, who, and what you need support with.

Having a doula who can walk you through this time can not only be insightful but the impact and numbers show for themselves! Doulas have been shown to decrease morbidity and mortality, have a lower rate of c-sections, and have better infant health outcomes. This is not only practiced in the U.S., doulas are widely used around the world in different capacities to help mom/birthing person the greatest potential and outcomes. In many parts of the world, doulas and midwives help deliver babies and had been doing these types of holistic practices for hundreds or years.
